MV Red Sky

(Photo at just a few hours old)

Chestnut Tobiano filly (IQPA/PtHA/APPR)
SS Flashin' My Badge (IQPA/PtHA/APPR) x MV's Ginger Snap (IQPA/AQPA)

We were anxiously watching Pearl, who was several weeks overdue, and waiting for her to foal when Ginger decided to beat her to it and give us our first foal of the year. Early on the morning of Friday, April 13th, she presented us with Bandit's first foal, a beautiful chestnut tobiano filly we've named Sky that has all the best qualities of both parents. Within hours it was obvious this gorgeous little girl was going to be a pocket pony just like her sire and dam with a temperament that is really a joy to work with.

This gorgeous little filly is everything we hoped for when we bred Ginger to Bandit last spring and looks like Sky is definitely going to shape up to be the show pony we expected from these two. Going by her hip and shoulder, Sky will have enough bulk to be able to show at halter, and with her flashy markings and the lovely refined head she got from her sire we think she ought to do well. As Sky matures she should easily move right into the performance pen where she will be able to put some of her sire's speed and grace and her dam's athleticism to work!

We don't breed just for show though, and Sky is a wonderful example of our ideal family-safe pony. At just a few days old she already comes to see anyone who visits her, and she has made it very plain that she loves both adults and children. With her sweet temperament, we expect Sky to be one of our favorites this year!

Sky truly is one of those rare full-package ponies that has the temperament, ability, and color to be some lucky child's treasured best friend for many years to come. If she weren't sired by our own young herdsire, we'd definitely be thinking about keeping this one!

Update:
Sky's shaping up into a chunky little girl and shedding off a deep rich chestnut with a bit of roaning that may or may not be permanent since neither of her parents is obviously roan. Sky definitely has Bandit's beautiful dished face, and his temperament that makes it a bit difficult to get pictures of either of them... They're always too close to the camera!
